What We Do

Project Aim

Through the Sports for Empowerment project we provide both the incentive and the opportunity for Sierra Leonean youth to realise their full educational and personal development potential.

Our driving aim is to contribute to the forging of a new Sierra Leonean generation: one that is more educated, one that is more empowered and one that is more self-aware. With these tools we believe that Sierra Leonean youths will be better equipped than their forefathers to drive the micro and macro changes that stifle the development of Sierra Leone.

Why Sport?

We believe that participation in sport can serve as a catalyst for promoting social integration and personal development in different geographical, cultural and political contexts. We see sport as a powerful tool for strengthen social ties and networks, and for promoting ideals on peace, fraternity, solidarity, non-violence, tolerance and justice. Finally, inclusive sports is fun and in places like Sierra Leone can provide a welcome short distraction from everyday life.

Sport is not limited to elite or organised competition. Sport can include play, recreation, and indigenous sports and games.

Action Plan

To achieve this ambitious vision we have set ourselves a set of short, medium, and long-term objectives:

Between now and 2025 our efforts will be focused on realising the following objectives:

• Have 2-3 pupils in university;
• Support current pupils in successfully passing their end of school exams through schools fees and learning materials;
• Keep supporting our partner organisation Friends in Sport Academy (FiSA) by providing them with knowledge and learning materials;
• Establish partnership with the relevant authorities such as Youth Commission, Ministry of Education and Sport and other NGO’s or community based organisations.

Between 2025 and 2028, we will realise the following objectives:

• Build 2-4 class rooms in cooperation with our partner organisation Friends in Sport Academy;
* Get a computer lab running as part of a partnership with both FiSA and Suppor Sport in Sierra Leone
• Contribute to the ongoing provision of university support opportunities in Sierra Leone for motivated yet under-privileged youths project participants;
• In collaborations with public and private institutions to provide youths with internships programs and varied work experience opportunities;
• Establish the project within the community, and win the buy-in of parents and community elders.

Beyond 2028, our long-term objectives to realise include:

• Establish our project as a recognised actor in the community as driver of positive, holistic, and sustainable social change;
• Expand the project’s activities throughout the country;
• Encourage project alumni to contribute to the delivery and growth of the project; and
• Ensure the project’s sustainability in every sense.
